Foundation Program - WAUFP
Tuart College offers international students the opportunity to enrol in the excellent Western Australian Universities' Foundation Program (WAUFP).
This program has been designed especially to prepare international students for tertiary institution enrolment.
Every student who successfully completes the WAUFP program is guaranteed a place in one of the four Western Australian public universities. The program is offered by Tuart College on behalf Curtin University of Technology, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University and The The University of Western Australia. The Universities publish in advance the minimum entry scores students must achieve at the end of the program. If these scores are achieved, entry is guaranteed.
Results in the WAUFP are also recognised by universities in other states of Australia, giving students a wide range of courses and institutions for further study. Most importantly, the most prestigious universities, 'the Group of Eight' accept Tuart results
A Choice of Formats
Depending on your academic background, it is possible to take the WAUFP in a number of formats. It may be necessary to undertake a Bridging Program ( Link required) prior to entry to a Foundation Program
The Standard Foundation Program
Students who have completed the equivalent of Year 11 in their home country will be enrolled in the Standard Foundation Program. This is a 10 month course commencing in January, concluding with external examinations in November. This program is recommended for the majority of students from non – English speaking backgrounds, as it provides the greatest opportunities to achieve academic success.
The April Start Foundation Program
The April Start Foundation Program requires that students have completed Year 11 or its equivalent to a high standard. This shortened program allows students to commence their studies in April. To enable these students to cover the course work, they have more weekly hours of tuition and shorter vacation periods, when compared to students in the Standard Program. April Start Foundation students sit for the same examinations as the Standard Foundation students.
The Fast–Track Foundation Program
Those students who have completed secondary studies ( Year 12 equivalent) can enroll in the Fast-Track Foundation Program, which commences in June and is completed with examinations in December. As this program is an “express course”, it requires good English skills and strong academic background.
Content of the Foundation Program
The program has been designed to meet the needs of international students. The subject list ensures that students reach a level of competence in English to enable them to cope with university studies. The academic subjects offered prepare them for their chosen university courses.
English Language and Australian Cultural Studies
(Compulsory subject)
This subject, usually referred to as ELACS, provides a skills development program in listening, speaking, reading and writing in the English language, as well as an introduction to the Australian society and culture.
Academic Studies
(Students must choose at least three but no more than four subjects from the list. The content for each subject is the same as in the TEE Program.)

Assessment and University Entry Requirements
In the Standard Foundation Program, final scores for all subjects are based on 50% continuous classwork and 50% from the final external examination. In the Fast Track format, final scores are based solely on the external examination.
To gain admission to university you need to achieve:
A score of at least 50% in English Language and Australian Cultural Studies
A Combined Percentage Score (CPS) in three academic subjects that meets the requirement for entry to your chosen university course. If you elect to study four subjects, only the three highest scoring subjects will be used to calculate your average.
Examination results are normally available within one month of program completion. At that time the universities will make formal offers of place to successful students.
