Flying Start Program

The Flying Start Program is designed to give students a chance to upgrade their education to year 10 or year 11 equivalence.

Is this program for me?    

This program is designed for adults who wish to upgrade their secondary education to the equivalent of Year 10 or Year 11 level. You will need to be aged 16 years or older before 1 January to be eligible for enrolment. By enrolling in this program you can achieve a variety of goals such as

  • meeting the necessary prerequisites for employment,
  • providing an opportunity to change your occupation,
  • preparing for TEE studies,
  • meeting the prerequisites for certain TAFE courses,
  • improving your general education at this level for personal reasons or so that you can help your children with their studies.
  • gaining confidence in your academic ability, and
  • improving your general study habits and learning skills.

Day classes are available in all subjects. Classes run in the evening depending on demand. The fee for each subject will be around $49 for one semester. This fee covers the cost of books as well as all materials used in class.

Can I Study full-time?            

Yes. To be a full-time student you need to study four subjects during the day : a minimum of 16 hours in a week. Full-time day students may be eligible to receive an Austudy allowance.

Will I be assessed?               

The program is divided into two semesters. Students in Flying Start have to complete a semester in the required number of subjects at a certain level to receive a Certificate. Satisfactory performance in individual subjects is recognised by a Statement of Attainment.

When Does The Program Run?    

The Semesters run from the beginning of February to the end of November. The year is divided into two semesters. Full-time students in Flying Start have to complete a semester to receive a Certificate; satisfactory performance in individual subjects is recognised by Statements of Attainment.

How do I enrol?                           

All enrolment is by appointment and interviews. These interviews will start in late June and mid-November.

More detailed enrolment information will be available prior to commencement of enrolment sessions.

Most Flying Start courses cost between $52 and $97 for a semester, with most subjects costing $52 for the semester length course.
